What about an article on “positioning”?

Well, in these days I read on Google+ the post on "positioning" by John Harper (https://plus.google.com/102241355698439183778/posts/FXvHMqPYYNG). I debated about the concept of "positioning" among my gaming circles and I discovered how poor is my knowledge of this concept. I asked for articles on the matter, but the only thing we managed to find is the definition on The Big Model Wiki (http://big-model.info/wiki/Positioning), which is cryptic at best.

So, this is my request: what about writing a complete article on "positioning"? It would be helpful.

You might want to check out Vincent Baker's series of posts on the subject: table of contents and summary. I'm pretty sure that that's what John Harper had in mind.

Oh, thank you! Now I'm going to read all that stuff.

I don't really know why "positioning" has become such a complicated issue in post-Forge discussions. I'm beginning to think the term has been interpreted far beyond my original use, which is sometimes a good thing and sometimes a bad one. I'm not sure which, in this case. I do know that the last thing I want to do is pursue an issue all around multiple sites to enforce my original views. Even when I do post elsewhere, it's usually to keep my original point from being mis-represented, or to note that the discussion has left it far behind - and since such posts are usually accused of being interfering and controlling, I've generally given up doing so anyway.

Adding it to the wiki for clarification of my original use does seem like a good idea. With all these excellent points recently raised here in this forum, clearly I need to schedule a Wiki Day for myself.

Best, Ron
