[Sorcerer Kickstart] Tactics after the second goal

The only thing to laugh about is how hysterical I was getting.

I obviously can't do arithmetic after a full day of parenting. I did it right this time, and staying with the same assumptions and using exactly the statistics right off the site right now, I'm gaining $3260 above printing and postage for the current orders. As long as the average per pledge doesn't drop, I'm in great shape. And given the rate people are increasing their existing pledges, I think that seems likely, although there are in fact so many days to go, there's no telling for sure.

Apropos of very little except that it was the perfect movie to suit my mood (and a seminal influence on Sorcerer), I watched A Better Tomorrow again last night, not having seen it for about twelve years. What a fantastic, brilliant movie.

So, I fixed it! The only risk that I faced was a raft of $25 pledges, especially non-U.S. ones. So I realized that by marking those "full," and opening new ones at the right price-points for PDF only and book shipping anywhere, all would be well.

Or rather, that's what I was muddling toward doing back when I created the duplicate of the no-longer-applicable pledge after the $10,000 mark. So that's fixed.

Anyway, as I type it's $6 shy of $15,000, and as you can see there's no mention of a stretch goal. I am disinclined to do another stretch goal. From here on out, the art is funded and every order pays for itself as well as adds a bit more to the pile. Since I can't close down the Kickstart early (which I really would prefer to do), I guess I am merely going to watch that little pile grow, and I have no special reason to want it to "get" anywhere.

At days to go, we're pretty much at the halfway point. I'll pester Thomas to see if any art-evolution can be posted, and work on that rules-instruction video which I had to neglect due to other hassles (I've been editing it into pieces already; now I have to add dice footage). I will certainly add more asterisked $50 goals as I think of them. It will be fun to post entertaining stuff at the Kickstart too, treating it as a playground for myself.

Tim Koppang came over last night to help me taste-test and compose, at the bar. I'm now much better at this than nine years ago, during the events of Bartender!. I had already tentatively arrived at three recipes, and we modified those, made up two more, and almost a sixth but didn't finish that one due to lacking fresh ginger. But hey, 5 down, 15 to go! Not tonight, though, thank you very much.

You could just quantity-limit all pledge levels to the current numbers. That would pretty much do it, I understand. You would still need to wait out the funding period, though.

At present, I'll see if I can turn it into a bit of a party at the KS site, with fun and funny stuff along with perhaps a few more quality pledge items. If people can get into it at that level - as opposed to "more! stuff! to! get!" and stretch-goal fever - then I think it has the potential to be a great memory for everyone.

The thing with the max number of $25 pledges is that they may become available again if enough people upgrade. You might have to adjust that on the fly or something.

Ron Edwards

I have been doing just that. I can also monitor whether a new pledger is jumping in to fill the gap, as opposed to using the pledge they're supposed to. So far no one has done that, but if it happened (probably by accident), then I can address it. So the net effect is clunky, definitely not the clean little column of pledge items people seem to use as their primary viewing item, but reasonably safe.

If anyone reading this is active in the buzz "out there," please consider explaining that I'm not an idiot or being deliberately obscure, and most importantly, no original $25 pledger is supposed to adjust their pledge to the new items, no matter where they are.
