Title: Pay Pal info - Selling PDF's online
Post by: MarktheAnimator on June 27, 2004, 06:11:03 AM
Hello,
Ok, so I've made an electronic copy of my game and I want to sell a pdf online.

I went to Pay Pal, got an account, and dropped the buttons into my site.

Does anyone know how to set it up so that after a person pays, they will be automatically directed to the web page where they can actually download the pdf?

thx for the info in advance.

Hi Mark,

There are lots of ways to do this. The absolutely most simple way is for you to email the game to the person upon receiving the Paypal notification. This is clunky and subject to many hassles, especially firewalls and bandwidth limits.

The automatic-download might be problematic, although methods and accounts vary - if you want something like this, then hopefully some more replies can help you out.

I suggest that an intermediate step, in which you can look over the order and see if it looks funky, is a good idea.

A lot of us use the Forge Bookshelf service, in which you can authorize specific emails to download the file. It's especially nice because you get notified with each download, hence can see if someone is downloading a ton of copies and check in with them.

Get in touch with Clinton (Clinton R. Nixon) here at the Forge to get set up with it, if you like.

Best,
Ron

Contact Matt Snyder via private mail and find out about the system that he's using.  He has a system set up that sends you a password as soon as your payment clears.  It works very well and doesn't require direct intervention on your part to get products to customers.

Check out www.RPGNOW.com . They will set you up with their catalog, tools, customer base, etc. They charge a small fee (which can be smaller than paypals depending on the price you want to set). You retain all the rights and such and you have complete control of how you want to sell it.

They even have php code you can use to put a cart on your website real easy.
