I had a small question about Forge ettiquette (spelling there is not quite right, but it IS 5 in the morning). I would like to post a larger span of my setting and system, but do to some quirks of my internet connection, putting it on free web-space isn't practical. On the other hand, poeple seem to want to avoid gargantuan posts which I understand. I was wondering what exactly was the proper way to go about things. Thanks
One, probably beneficial, way of doing it is to write a precis of your system and setting. It will
a) help you organize your thoughts as to what's important.
b) make it more likely that people will help you, being that they can get the gist of the problem more easily.
Just make it short enough to not be a "gargantuan post", and you'll have no problems.
Another way is to ask somebody else to put it up. If it's just a text file (sensible at this stage, I'd think), you can throw it at anyone with an independent server and they'll put it up for a couple of weeks. Me, for instance.
And, actually long posts are actually better tolerated here than elsewhere.
That said, obviously an entire setting is more than anyone will likely read. More importantly, it's more than you could possibly have a question for.
That is, if your question is, "Is this good stuff?" don't bother asking. That would be a violation of Forge ettiquette. Instead, come up with some questions in specific about your system and setting, and then post the questions with the relevant parts of your text that relate to the question.
Post lots of them if you have to. This will keep things more focused, and you'll get better feedback. The answer to, "Is it good enough?" is, "Only if you think so."
