Title: Online bell curve generators?
Post by: SteveMND on September 01, 2004, 06:13:26 PM
I was wondering if anyone knew of an URL or other web-accessable source that I could use to generate some probabilities for rolling a specific number when using X number of X-sided dice?

For example, on 3d10, I know getting a 3 or a 30 is 1 in 1000, but what are the odds of getting, say, a 22 or higher?  Etc.

Any help would be appreciated.  Math is not my strong suit, unfortunately.

I don't know of one.

I do know that Multiverser has an appendix that discusses how to calculate a lot of those, and that 3d10 is one of the curves it gives in detail (because it is used in the game). I've read reviews that said that appendix alone is worth the price of the book, but I'd like to think that the game itself is worth the price and the appendix is an extra assist.

I usually do those with a computer program that writes results of loops to a matrix; there are other methods people use around here, but I don't recall anyone mentioning a web site for it.

Try some of the links over in RPG.net's Game Designer's Resource Thread ( http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=102406 ).  Harlequin-Jones has one there that works very well, but you'll also find some mathematical equations too.
