Title: Indie Games hit National Public Radio
Post by: GregStolze on June 16, 2005, 02:14:55 PM
At least one indie game, anyhow: NPR's On The Media (http://www.onthemedia.org/) interviewed Daniel Solis and myself about Meatbot Massacre (www.danielsolis.com/meatbot) and the ransom model of publishing.  I know.  I'm as surprised as anyone.  The segment should air this Saturday, God willing and the creek don't rise.

Hello Greg,

I thought of your ransom model as I came across Fundable (http://fundable.org/). It's a whole website based on group-buys. I foresee future indie games being launched via services such as Fundable.

TTFN,

Very cool. What time of day will it be on?

Time depends on what station you listen to.  For Chicago, it's WBEZ, Saturday, 3:00.

...and before the accusations of lies and publicity stunts pour in -- my interview got kicked back a week or two.  Apparently NPR felt that the Downing Street memo was more 'topical' or some damn thing.

Hey Greg,

Definitely, I want to see your download stats after the interview hits the airwaves!

Congrats!  Did you see a bump in your webtraffic?

And, excuse my ignorance, but what's the ransom model of publishing?

Cheers

That's a relief!  Here I am listening to On the Media Saturday and I didn't hear the interview.  I wasn't exactly glued to the radio, but I was around it most of the show; I'm thinking, How could I have missed it?  There was even a little ad blip before the show about funding content on the web (I can only assume that referred to your interview).

I didn't even hear the ad blip.  I did listen (I happened to be stuck in traffic for the whole show with my children passed out in the back seat) so I can only say it's impending.  That's good though.  Gives us more time to brace ourselves and hopefully get the second ransomed game, ...in Spaaace! (http://www.gregstolze.com/space.html) prepped for traffic.

As for the Ransom Model, see http://www.danielsolis.com/meatbot/ransom.html for full discussion.
