Title: Who has actually finished a pen and paper RPG?
Post by: jeremycoatney on October 27, 2005, 07:54:48 PM
-Hello,
I was just wondering how many people have actually written their own pen and paper RPG game, from the ground up-system and all? I was just wondering because I myself I written one, and wondered how many other people had as well.
Am I alone, on this board, in having done this? I would like to know.
If you have written your own pen and paper RPGs, what kind(s) have you written?

Oh boy.

First, welcome to the Forge, Jeremy. You've clearly arrived where you wanted to be.

Second, as an answer to your question: I suspect that the majority of people on this board have written their own roleplaying games, at least when considering the active posters. I myself have written almost a dozen, and I'm certainly in the lower third of the totem pole here game design -wise. Additionally, we have over a dozen (two dozen?) folks posting here who have not only written, but also published their games for money.

Third: read the stickies in the Site Discussion forum and each individual forum, those tell about the common etiquette and the purpose of each forum. This particular one (Indie Game Design) is meant for the sole purpose of actual game design, not general discussion of related issues. (A moderator will probably move us soon.) Also, take note of the kind of discussions that are encouraged here; you're expected to bring up issues of substance, which a "polling thread", as this kind is called, is not. You probably won't get many answers from enthusiastic folks who just want to go on record about having designed a game, with nothing else to say.

Other than that, enjoy your stay! I recommend reading some discussions on each of the forums to get a sense of how the place works. You might also enjoy some of the articles and reviews linked at the top of the pages. And don't hesitate to ask questions, if any come up. The Forge can be a mite confusing to newcomers, but the best cure for that is to ask around and have patience. As a game design resource it's pretty much unparalleled.

Jeremy, nice to meet you! Is your game available online somewhere? I'm sure there are a bunch of folks who would love to check it out.

PS: I've recently published a game. If you follow the link in my sig you can read the alpha version of my game.

-Hello,
Yes, my game is available online, after a fashion. The game is not viewable online, but copies of it can be obtained through mail order. The reason for this is simply that I started my RPG as a minor business venture, not for profit per-se, but as a self-sustaining project of sorts. I have one book finished, and I am over half way through the second one. The website www.myrpgstore.com, is in my signiature, though if you have any specific questions about the game you can E-mail me at questions@myrpgstore.com.
Almost all of my business mail goes to a central mail box, I just use the specific names to let me know what the mail is about.
-Jeremy

Hello,

Jeremy, welcome to the Forge ...

... but this thread has to stop here. No one post to it.

Jeremy, I invite you to begin a new thread that is suitable for the Forge, and if you have any questions about what that means, or which forum it should go into, just send me a private message and ask. I'm actually pretty nice.

But for now, this thread isn't substantive, and it's closed.

Best,
Ron
