Title: Request help finding a clue
Post by: Nick the Nevermet on May 06, 2002, 05:33:17 PM
Hi there
I'm relatively new here, and I've read the files in the article section, but still get lost pretty easily as I read posts.  Is there any other material on GNS outside these articles, or is this something I just need to read and engage and eventually (hopefully) start to understand, or both?

One older thread that may eventually become an article is my

Primer on GNS (http://www.indie-rpgs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1559)

You may find this a useful place to start.

Hi there,

This forum always welcomes plain old basic questions, such as:

"What the hell is the difference between Karma and Drama?"

"Isn't Actor Stance just 'playing in character'?"

"What makes the Impossible Thing so impossible?"

"Isn't Narrativism just using a lot of Drama?"

And so on. Or maybe it's larger-scale issue, so that the following points might be considered:

"Why does GNS have to be considered, given Stance, Resolution, Reward, and IIEE? Don't these account for the nuts & bolts of role-playing?"

"What determines 'compatibility' across the goals? Why are some games tagged as 'incoherent' whereas others are tagged as 'hybrids'?"

Anyway, feel free simply to ask stuff. Sometimes ten posts will fly back, all saying the same thing, and other times they'll get into a tangle with one another, and we'll all emerge bloody but (usually) satisfied with the eventual conclusion.

Best,
Ron
