Title: [Mechaton] Help get me playing Right.
Post by: Noclue on September 21, 2007, 06:40:59 PM
So, I bought mechaton. I'm mostly an RPGer but I have these LEGO Mindstorm sets that are sitting around collecting dust. So I thought Mechaton might be fun. Anyway, I have the book now and I see I could use some mech kits. I'm pretty lost though. I have the LEGO digital designer and would love to just click a button and have them send me stuff to make mechs.

Any guidance here for a true noob?

I might not be understanding you, but if you need LEGO advice, why not go to the LEGO builder's forums? You'll get virtually no advice, here, about using Mindstorm or making ambulating skeletal structures onto which you'd attach the control box and servos.

If you need help understanding the RPG, with what particular rules are you having trouble?

I need to spend some time on the Lego boards myself.

Noclue, if what you're looking for is a quick & dirty way to get some parts suitable for mech-making, check this out: Kilodyne's Lego Factory kit (http://www.lumpley.com/comment.php?entry=320#9932).

David: Sorry for the confusing post. I'm just raiding the Mindstorms sets for parts in order to make mechs. I've made some interesting thingies, but it thought it would be nice if I could just find a parts list and upload it to LEGO and they would send charge my credit card and send me little plastic bits.

Vincent: Thanks. Yes, I'm looking for easy, simple (affordable?) ways to get mech parts. I will check the link. Mech kits sound like what i'm after.

Vincent: Kilodyne's Mech Library was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! Also, I noticed that you have a page of designs and parts lists for your ptimanya mechs. How would one translate lists like those into actual pieces of plastic, if one were so inclined? Frex, I have been bipping around on LDD and Legofactory and I don't see anywhere that I can just list off parts like "Slope 45 2 x 1". I see how to send them an LDD model like Kilodyne made. I see how to buy featured products on Legofactory. But I can't figure out how to just get the parts on a list. Thanks in advance for continued help.

Also: Since I have the book now, any way I can get pdf updates when they come out?

Okay, now I feel like an idiot. I just found LEGO Factory Pick a Brick. Sorry.
