Ice-O-Hedron: a mid-winter d20 mini-con

This is a proposal.  Hopefully some Torontonians get back to me and/or I get some feedback on the potential of this proposal to gather players.

**********************************************************************

I haven't seen any posters or plans for Pandemonium, Toronto's long-standing RPG convention.

So I have a modest proposal:

In a reasonably-priced hall, we gather a number of gamers and
celebrate the spine of our hobby -- the many games derived from TSR's
Dungeons and Dragons.

There would be d20, True 20, Ryan's E6 mod., Star Wars, Mutants and
Masterminds, Spycraft, Key 20, D&D, AD&D, Basic D&D, Chainmail, Iron
Gauntlets -- whatever.

I would like to set a floor for the event.  The venue will not be booked and
money is not paid until we see:

- 4 different games run by 4 different GMs
- at least 4 different players signed up for each of those games

These games will be run in the first session. (10:00 AM to 2:30 PM,
including break)
Then, there will be an open sign-up for the second session. (3:30 to 8:00
PM, including break).
If demand is showing, we can have a 3rd session. (9:00-1:00 late session)

I have a poll up with various pricing/room/and attendance projections.

Which combination do YOU feel most likely to result in a: a) fun gaming atmosphere; b) financial break-even.

I am in the process of applying to the Toronto School Board for permission to run the con at local school.

I need to submit the names of anyone who might be attending, along with other contact information.

If you are even slightly thinking of maybe coming, please contact me at my personal email address so that I can gather the information we need:

If we get the permit, the fee for the event will be $10.

Sad News: Forced Cancellation for Ice-O-Hedron

Dear Ice-O-Hedron Supporter

They finally assigned me a room and it is far too expensive for our purposes.  I will simply have to cancel the event.

The TDSB will only let me rent the cafeteria for our meeting.  This would cost $2000.  I was worried that we would be squeezed down to one room instead of three.  I never imagined I would be put in a huge cafeteria and charged an incredible amount.

I am also more than a little mad.  It has been six weeks since my proposal was submitted and only NOW they make their decision?  Perhaps if I had started this whole process sooner, I would have got the disappointment out of the way faster and could have found alternative arrangements.  As it is, I have no choice but to cancel things.

The pre-paid attendees will be getting their fees refunded to them shortly.

Thanks to everyone for your support and encouragement.  Hopefully, you will all find something to do this Family Day weekend.

Yours, with a heavy heart,

Erik Weissengruber.  (A.K.A. Dr. Erock)
