Title: 2d6 or 3d6 for simple dice system
Post by: e24ohm on April 23, 2009, 07:29:35 PM
Folks:
I am new to the forum, and i like what I am seeing; however, i am trying to develop a simple dice system which uses 2d6 or 3d6, which is simple, but flexible that allows to focus on role playing.

I have used the 2d6 system in Mechwarrior 1st edition, and like the idea of the mechanics of rolling under x on 2d6, yet I want to design my own system which works the same way, but i am having a hard time determining what a nice based score for skills would be.

Example: roll 2d6 for Attribute score. Player A: rolled 7 for STR. Base skill level in a skill that is based off of STR would be what? I have the breakdown of what each die is worth in a %, but i am unsure.

This is what i am having a hard time with.

Can anyone direct me to a thread or suggest anything - i would appreciate it.

thank you
J

The most typical design would say that the average score in an attribute gains you no modifier.

7 is average on 2d6, so it gets a +0 to skills. stat-7 would be your modifier, or perhaps (stat-7)/2 round towards 0 would be better. The rest depends on the scale of dice you'll be rolling, and how big skill values are and so on.
