Title: 52 Gamer Pledge
Post by: Nathan on August 10, 2001, 10:08:00 PM
It is time to STOP fooling around.

Is this hobby going to kick some ass in the future, or are we going to keep moaning about our bespeckled fates?

Are you willing to take the 52 Gamer Pledge? I want to hear what you think. Can you do it? It is so simple too -- who is with me? Or do you think I suck?

Thanks,
Nathan

Simple! I don't know enought people who I'm friends with to recruit a new gamer every week.

I'd have to start making strange suggestions to people at work and complete strangers

Ahhh... excellent point.

I will address this issue in more detail in my next column -- "I simply do not know enough people to ask."

I figure that one - the rules of our "pledge" aren't so tight as to be modified. For example, a friend of mine is doing the 52 gamer pledge as well - and for the month, he taught 4 guys how to play. That counts for 4 weeks, so he can plot his next gamer carefully.

Also, I'm not talking about success at all - just theoretical (sp?) success. If you introduce someone and they hate it, you don't lose - they still count as one of your 52... You can't help whether or not they like it. Obviously, there are things you can do to help -- perhaps why another upcoming column centers on such madness.

Okay, cool.. Thanks Ian.

Well, of all the years to choose, this is probably the best. After all fantasy will be in the minds of the public more, due to such films as Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. Always much easier to introduce newbies if you have a good media reference.
