I've been inspired lately to do some fan art pieces for the indie RPG community, starting with my take on the core "image" for a few different games. After doing Universalis (http://www.shootingiron.com/feng/ps/alice_big_jsh.jpg) and Sorcerer (http://www.shootingiron.com/feng/ps/sorcerer_big_jsh.jpg), I decided to take a shot at Paladin.
Here's the result: http://www.shootingiron.com/feng/ps/paladin_jsh.jpg
Okay, that kicks so much ass that I had to immediately make it my wallpaper. Coolness.

Holy shit.
John - you'll have to explain the techniques you use to mesh photographs so well to me someday. It's incredible.
If you're trying to gain attention for your skills as an artist, John, you're doing a damn good job. While a great many people do the Photoshop/photography thing these days, your sense of composition is incredible. Very nice.
Would be my wallpaper too, except I've already got your Universalis piece up there.
Wow. 's all I can say.
Huh.
Seen better.
Hmmph.

Keep'em coming

I gets my scrilla from Photoshop. :)
I'm glad you like the piece. There are more coming: for octaNe, Dust Devils, The Riddle of Steel, and Trollbabe.
Those are amazing...
Could you be persuaded to put up bigger versions of those images for those of us with larger desktops? :) (1024x768 or 1600x1200)
Unfortunately, I don't have larger versions. My personal preference for a desktop image is to have a small 800x600 image in the middle of the desktop, with all of my file clutter around it. So, the original images were made at that size.
Also, I'm using stock photography found on the web, which is often very low-res and not suitable for larger compositions.
I just got a new PS filter that is supposed to help increase an image size by using fractalization, but I haven't tried it yet. If it works, I'll post links to the larger versions.
Okay, I was able to resample the image up to 1024x768 and keep it looking decent.

I'll do the others (Universalis and Sorcerer) shortly.
New, larger versions of all of the indie RPG desktop images are now available here:

The enlarged images are lovely, and the Trollbabe one has me lying on my back kicking my heels in the air with pure joy!
Yeah, Rafial, but Trollbabes always do that to me.
Err...geez. Usually Photoshop work leaves me cold. But yours is stunning.
Those are really damn brilliant. At least one of them will have to be my wallpaper at some point or another.
