Title: The Lumpley Principle?
Post by: ejh on May 08, 2003, 07:52:08 PM
Can someone summarize this for me, and point me to the threads it comes from?  It's gotten to the point that Ron is using it without defining it in essays, for heaven's sake...

Hiya,

Here's what I've put into the glossary terms for the Gamism article:

QuoteThe Lumpley Principle: "System (including but not limited to 'the rules') is defined as the means by which the group agrees to imagined events during play." The author of the principle is Vincent Baker.

Here's an older thread where it might have been tagged by that name first, although I could be wrong about that: Player power abuse (http://www.indie-rpgs.com/viewtopic.php?t=4415). Running down the first time Vincent laid it on the line (because we didn't call it a principle or anything at the moment) might be a bit harder.

Best,
Ron

Nope!  Easy peasy:
Vincent's Standard Rant: Power, Credibility and Assent (http://www.indie-rpgs.com/viewtopic.php?t=3701)

I'd say it a bit differently now, of course, but there it is.
