Title: A suggestion for Taunting....
Post by: Stephen on September 03, 2003, 02:53:11 PM
We all know in real life that trying to get someone really mad works much better if you know what their weaknesses are and can capitalize on them.

So here's a thought:  what if you can take advantage of someone's SAs by tailoring your Taunts to them?

A very simple mechanic: by tailoring your Taunts to the topics of somebody's Conscience, Drive, Faith or Passion (Destiny and Luck, needless to say, don't work well for this), you can gain a bonus of THEIR SA to your Taunting die pool.

Needless to say, of course, this will only work if you know your target well, and requires some good judgement/intuitive guessing to select which SA to focus on.  But this also explains the classic routine of the villain or hero cycling through choices of insult until they find the one which goes straight to the target's sore point....

Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Criticisms?

I like the idea in general. But, while that would get the character to drop red, I'd also give him the SA for his pool if he didn't already have it. So, sure, you've gotten him to come offsides, but you've also enraged him to the point where he may be more dangerous than before. That would make it an interesting tactic to try.
