Title: Olde School Dee And Dee Sorcerer
Post by: Judd on September 20, 2004, 06:15:09 AM
Would this work at the table or am I just sleep deprived?

Sorcerers are your favorite junior high characters.

Demons are magic items, henchmen, followers and cool pets.  Note that a Demon's power is not necessarily only a measure of how many powers it has but how fucking cool it is.

Humanity is the ability to be cool.

When Humanity reaches 0 you lose the ability to be cool and have pushed it too far.  Your character becomes an NPC in control of the GM and might be given back if you beg enough and give the Dungeon Maestro his favorite food.  But upon having your character returned you must accept a humiliating descriptor for one stat and see your price penalty doubled.

Lore is knowing the Monster Manual and Fiend Folio by heart, knowing the DM's notes or just plain knowing what movies or books he's been reading.

Descriptors

Stamina

Eighteen Double-Oh! - You cheated but now you are as strong as Ah-nuld in Conan

Dweeb - I hope you're the Mage.

Sinewy - Somewhere in the mid to high teens

Two Scimitars - You are so kewl.

Will

Mage - You are strong of mind and have the pointy hat to show for it.

Helm-Head - You spent all of your study time playing with your sword *snicker*

Slick - Always looking for the most cunning plan like a all good rouges.

Ten - Eh, not great, not bad.

Lore

Newbie - You don't know shit.  Just shut up and don't sit on any d4's.

DM's Girlfriend - You are blessed by fate and touched by the Gods.

Back from Gen Con - You know shit about gaming, man.  You have been to the geek's Mecca and have returned with wisdom.

Good Geek - You know the difference between a bullywug and a slaadi death lord.

Tootin' my own horn here:

The Keys of Uriel (http://www.anvilwerks.com/src/sorcerer/the_keys_of_uriel.html), a slightly more serious version of the "Sorcerer as D&D" game.

Inside (http://www.chimera.info/daedalus/articles/winter2004/inside.html), which looks like a cyberpunk Sorcerer mini-supplement but is directly influenced by the thread Ron linked to. Read it with one eye squinted: completely normal people that consider themselves special and control versions of themselves that have superpowers in an artificial world? Sounds familiar to me.

Heh. Warning: this post teases Clinton mercilessly. Tequila!

Random poster #1: Hey guys, I have this cool idea for Sorcerer!

Clinton: Yeah, I did that in Inside.

Other random poster: Whoa, guys, can you believe what you could do with Sorcerer, if you stand on your head?

Clinton: Funny, I did that a couple of years ago, and it inspired Inside.

Poster #3: When you put a little motor and wheels on the rulebook, and set it down and point toward the dog, it chases the dog across the room!

Clinton: Mechanization of characters and their emotional reaction to mechanization of themselves and others is fundamental to playing Inside.

...

All in recognition that Inside rocks, of course.

Best,
Ron

The server serving chimera.info seems to be down at the moment - the link looks OK.

New Kicker Rule:

Kickers must be phrased like this:

Today my player X and then later, at the weekly game, his/her character Y.

Examples:

Today the player defeated a Final Fantasy game while masturbating to Star Trek porn and then later, at the weekly game, his/her character was on his way up the steps of the Temple of Insurmountable Evil with zombie guts on his  magic axe and a glare in his eyes as the liche came into view.

Today the player asked out a pretty girl at the internet cafe and was crudely put down and then later, at the weekly game, his/her character was caught in bed with the Dread Emperor's most comely of consorts by the Dread Emperor's vile imp familiar.

Today the player went through the motions at her dead-end job while dreaming of her MMORPG character and then later at the weekly game, his/her character jumped through the cyclopean doors to the final room of the Dungeon-O-Doom with no concern of the dangerous within.

The game concerns the actions of the character and you will never roll dice on behalf of the player but you play the character with full knowledge of what is going on in their lives.  Players get extra dice for giving their player's out of game reasons for the player's character's in-game actions.

Got a headache yet?[/b]
