The rules state you cannot add bonus dice to a roll made with penalty dice. What if the player first cancels the penalty dice using dice from his pool or gift dice from another player? Can he then add more dice after the roll is made (either from a pool or gift dice)?
What are your guidelines for the number of XP to hand out for key scenes? There were no examples of this is the book.

It was my understanding that bonus and penalty dice just cancel each other out. (2 penalty dice + 1 bonus die = 1 penalty die)

Tim is correct. If you've canceled out all penalty dice by the time you roll, you can add bonus dice afterwards. Basically, you can
never have penalty dice and bonus dice at the same time. If you roll with penalty dice, they are fixed, and you're stuck with them.
