Title: Narrativist Espionage possible?
Post by: slavlin on July 27, 2005, 11:05:46 PM
Do you think it is possible to creat a Narrativist game which is centered around the idea of a group of agents? I feel like it should be possible, but I am truely at a loss of where to start. Do you know if there is any game out there which has focuse on something like this?

Thanks,

Mike

Hello,

You might be interested in my proto-game Zero at the Bone, which is associated with my essay "Narrativism: Story Now," in the Articles section. It is not a really developed game, but it presents some interesting ideas on what the real concerns of espionage are in human terms, which isn't, for example, anything to do at all with whether the spying is successful. The characters are in "the Cold," to use the term coined by John le Carre, and in many ways, the question is whether they'll let the spying damage the lives of people who are close to them.

Also, I am working on a new project for Adept Press which develops this idea further, but although it's gruesomely Narrativist, it's not really a role-playing game and isn't being developed via the Forge. If you're interested in talking to me about it, get in touch privately.

Best,
Ron
