Title: [Standoff!] Complication Suffocation
Post by: Troy_Costisick on January 20, 2006, 08:34:30 AM
Heya,

I'm trying to come up with about a dozen or so more complications for Stand Off! (http://www.1km1kt.net/rpg/Stand_Off.php), but I'm totally stumped!  So here's what I need.  Think of all the James Bond, Mission Impossible, and Quentin Terantino movies you've ever seen.  What are some complications that always come up when two (or more) people are point guns at each other?

Peace,

-Troy

Hi!
The standoff seems to be "story time" in this genre meaning:
Soliloquies
Characters start to question their own values or those of their leaders
Distractions (cries for help, explosions, etc.)
Intimidations/Stare downs (In gun fights this is when characters have those samurai-style mental battles where people get defeated without ever actually being attacked)
Persuasions
Barganing
Psychological warfare
Loosing nerves
Mutual de-escalation
Surrender
Delivery of new facts (via 3rd party, radio, TV, etc.)
It might be an interesting way for non-GM players to stop the fight long enough to advance the story behind the fight mechanically.
