Dang. I only read a few of her books, but she was good. I figured I'd post it here because she showed up in the bibliography thread.
Head injury after a fall at home (http://books.monstersandcritics.com/news/article_1133295.php/Sci-fi_writer_Octavia_Butler_dead_at_58)
Sad, indeed. I was just giving her work another shot, too.
No! When did this happen?? I didn't hear anything about it... but then I haven't been listening to the radio much lately.
Cripes, March?? How the hell did I miss that? I'm crushed. Octavia Butler has long been one of my all time favorite authors. I reread the Xenogenesis trilogy every year, sometimes more.
She was also a champion of human rights and social justice, through her writing which explored via science fictional premises the interactions of people, cultures, races, and ideologies.
The world has lost a great light. But her work lives on, and I encourage anyone and everyone to seek it out and enjoy it.
I just finished to read Bloodchild (Hospedeiros in portuguese). It is one of the best short stories I read.
Thanks for the recommendation, lopes!
