Title: Shield/Counter designs
Post by: Silverback on March 26, 2007, 12:20:36 PM
Our Agon GM, after seeing what I'd produced, decided it would be a good idea for each player to have their character(s) shield designed and used as a token during play.  The first one completed is for my character Protus Far-Seeing, son of Nilus.

Oh yes. This is a wonderful idea.

Nice design, too.

Oh, man, that's PERFECT. I've been frantically forgetting to look around for art to put on tokens for the con game, and I was going to fall back on just putting names on them, which would have sucked. This is brilliant. I will whip up some shield designs post haste.

Thanks for the idea!

*me suddenly realizing I can't draw for crap, especially on computers*....

If you run CorelDraw or Adobe Illustrator I can send you the 'template' for building shield designs onto.

Hm, nope, neither of those, but thanks.

I just drew some circles in Word and filled them with various art and symbols. Not as pretty as yours, but for the scale of the tokens, it'll do just peachy.

Thanks for the idea!

Now I just have to finish the adventure >.<  Agon is rough, since you have to plan what amounts to 3 adventures at a time, or at least you do if you want to give the players a few choices. Not sure yet what stops them from popping back and forth between more than one quest, except maybe the decree of the gods... license to railroad just a tad? I'm not sure... we'll see.

Dave, if your island takes more than an hour to create, you may be thinking too hard. :)

Also, it's fine if the heroes bounce around between their 3 quests. That's typical, in my experience.

Well, the original reason I picked Agon was for that very reason- because even without the random-island-generator in the back, it was supposed to be quick and easy to come up with.

But then I had *ideas*... and the *ideas* won't leave me alone. Damn them.

So the three quests I have in store are 1) Escort a replacement oracle to Apollo's temple high on a mountain. 2) Retrieve Poseidon's trident from a grotto deep in a stygian cave. 3) Defeat the Champion of a shadowy cult in the major city.

I've got various gimmicks lined up for each quest. I picked Agon because it's 1-2-3, but I can't help myself, I always have to look for 4. It's a sickness.

I see. Well THAT I can't help you with. :-)

Those quests sounds awesome, too.

Hm. Yeah. I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to realize that I'm simply not going to have room for all the stuff I want in a con scenario. You recommend 3 secondary objectives and 1 primary for a one-session quest, which I'm guessing is roughly 4 hours. The one we played we blew through pretty quickly, including chargen, so I'm hoping to squeeze in a bit more... but I might still have to pare back a little.

And although I might have neat ideas for quests (even I'll admit it), my GMing skills are seriously lacking. It remains to be seen how much justice I can do to my own concepts.

*shrug* We'll see. If you're afraid to suck, you never learn to fly, right?

I've improved the shield designs by making the shield itself appear more metallic and a little battered.  The previous shield images have been updated and uploaded so if it's the first time viewing this thread you won't actually see a difference.
