Title: [Gears of Pain] Prequels
Post by: sirogit on May 16, 2007, 02:14:12 AM
So I did a little actual play for my IRC persistant game, "Gears of Pain". http://gop.awardspace.com/gop.html

I felt the game wasn't quickly moving enough, which is what I'd like to address with an added rule, the concept of "Prequels".

"Prequels" are basicly color scenes that are controlled entirely by one player, written after one session of play, and mean to occur at the beginning of the next session that they play.

Prequels have several purposes:

1. To remove the need for a color or exposistionary scene in game-play.

2. To provide a quick means for people to be invested in the other chracters in a given session.

I have some concerns about the system, in that its very much like requiring players to play on a play-by-post forum(though not in a very interactive fashion, which I'd view as a weakness of play-by-post) and there's a possibility of a cognitive disconnect between the non-interactive prequels and the interactive game play.

Thoughts, suggestions for a better system, referalls to similar ideas?
