Title: Generational Bliss Stage?
Post by: BlissAuthority on August 30, 2008, 02:00:42 PM
"Today is the 15th anniversary of our first victory.

Today is the day my mother died protecting us.

The day that Keenan died with "If I don't make it, know I'll always love you.  You bear my Hope" on his lips.

The day that Commander Smith remembers as Joshua's finest hour.

The day that we learned the invaders could be defeated...

If not by Commander Smith's generation, than by mine."

-- Archer Lin, Pilot, Manhattan Resistance

I have a terrible urge to run a game, Children of Children, taking place 15 years after the events of Final Act, following the kids of the characters from that.

It also occurs to me that Bliss Stage is perfect for generational play in general - assuming that you get an affirmative on the Second Generation hope, it seems like a natural lead-in to a new campaign.

How would you go about Children of Children or other generational games of Bliss Stage?

Hi!

I'm not sure I find the generational game as compelling as some others do: the disconnect from our world is much stronger, and I think that mutes the impact. But, that said, if it makes you happy, you should go for it: I think particularly this could be good after a particular campaign ending (can we raise another generation? Yes. Can we defeat the aliens? not yet.) So if you have that experience it might work as a "sequel game."

Dave, one of the playtesters, was thinking about a "future Bliss Stage" setting. Chris Chinn has also, and his thoughts are online here (http://bankuei.wordpress.com/2007/09/23/bliss-star/). Might be of interest.

I guess I just like extrapolating, guessing what societies would be like a few years down the road given that kind of starting point.

I have in fact started that game, named Children of Children.  Among the beautiful bits of setting color we came up with was the very young kids playing "Pilots, Anchors and Monsters."   And making every single pilot (and a late-twenties Sara Smith) in hearing range cringe over arguments about whether kissing another girl "counted."

...come to that, that works in any Bliss Stage game.

Yes.  Children of Children will be finishing up this weekend, and you're invited to watch at ToothyChat.

That was adressed to Ben in particular and interested Bliss Stage players in general, BTW.
