Title: The Lost Art of octaNe!
Post by: Jared A. Sorensen on January 11, 2003, 06:49:36 PM
The Story:
Back when I was getting octaNe ready for GenCon 2002, I was schlepping fake-punk merchandise at Hot Topic. Yeah, I know...the irony.

Anyway, I met a very nice woman named Kelly. Somehow, the topic of RPGs came up (she was talking with her friends about gaming and I butted in). She said she was an artist so I said, hey...I'm doing a game and I need art! She was interested in the project so I sent her an early draft -- she responded with a bunch of pix. Now, I decided to go art-less for the GenCon release, but I thought it would be cool to dig through the Memento Mori archives and let y'all see what coulda been.

Oh, and btw...Kelly's art can also be seen at her Elfwood gallery:

Be on the lookout for sets II through VIII (?!).

Nice! Where do all these micro-heroes come from, anyway?

The Ultra Vixen looks like she just kicked her way out of a copy of "Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!"

Stick one of those on a CAH "action figure" character sheet for maximum joy.

Hey, any chance for an Alien Naturalist who looks a lot like a department-store mannequin of a young William Shatner?

Best,
Ron

I made 'em!

And thanx re: "Faster Pussycat!" -- I based the image off of Varla. :)

Ron:
Dude. Yer weird, ya know that? I'll take the Bill Shatner option into consideration -- but he will be wearing a Hawaiian shirt and a camera.

I know you made 'em, smart guy. I meant how did you make 'em. I see micro-heroes all over lately. Is there a generator program, or a template like the Timm heroes, or what?

I just grab one of the pre-made templates and draw over it.

Get the templates here:

I like the Naturalist. He looks weird, but not so weird that he'd stick out amongst all the other tourists.

When you get around to the Two-Fisted Padre, could you make him look like Bud Spencer? :D
