well yes the game already has one endgame mechanic, that allows you to die for something that is important to him(and get a legend point beacuse you suceed at something).
I would introduce the other game mechaninc where the character dies (or just ends) and the player gets to narrate how and why. But it is not about failing, with my "karma dice"(which are different from the ones deciding the conflict) you can fail or win a conflict and still roll a 6 on the karma dice afterwards and be forced to end your character in his next scene.

I dont know if acutal samurai boasted a lot. But i know that they are presented in modern culture as fvery boastfull (check out samurai champloo or the Shogun series(were they also have a disrespect for everybodys who is not samuria)).
