So what's the point?

What am I doing wrong and what am I doing right?
Especially from folk that have run through games with a similar mindset what are some ways I could maximize my Mortal Coil experience (and that of the players)?

I know something I will focus more on is my themes - the dichotomies at work in the game.  I also noticed that I didn't really play with "the rules" as much as I could have, but that was because it was my first go around and I was focusing on the magic token mechanic.  I found it odd to not have the characters face off against inanimate objects (once I actually created a target number which I put a number of token in my hand to beat and the player commited what he thought was appropriate.  He made the target exactly!  It worked out pretty well.  I guess I should try to fit that in the report, huh?)

I understand now that I need to have my NPCs written out ahead of time and have tokens ready for them.
We did hand out obligatory Power Token at the end but I would have been happier if we did it more during play.

Before clicking on the link, I'd like to get a pointer from you about exactly what you think went wrong. No, it will not be obvious if I just go and read it. Tell me here.

Actually it would be obvious because I mention that at the beginning of the post  :)

BTW I generally post this stuff to my LJ because I often cross post this.  Within the next few months I will be moving all gaming stuff off the LJ and onto my normal gaming site.  Must find time... *sigh*

Anyway.  There was something else we did wrong, aside what I mentioned in my LJ post...

I believe we made the character's passions far too broad.  Especially for a game that I was planning on giving a spin, not create an epic series.  One character had "Duty to the people" and another had "Duty to preserve balance."  I think these don't do their jobs of pressing the point forward and exposing plot.  I think the second session (to be posted soon) we fixed some of that.
