How do I make straight lines in INdesign. They always come out crooked.

Try View --> Grids and Guides ---> Show document grid and snap to document grid.

Like all Adobe products, click and hold to start drawing the line (you already are doing this). BUT, after you click, hold down the SHIFT key. This forces the line into 90-degree angles. Release the click where you want the line end-point to be. You'll have a "straight" line. (You can move the mouse around to see the line shift from horizontal to vertical, etc.

Select the Line Tool. Click and hold, move the cursor and start to draw a line. Hold down the Shift key so that you draw in 45 degree angles. Release the mouse button to "finish" the line. Then release the Shift key.

(You can also try the pen tool (not to be confused with the pencil tool) in a similar way.)

Thanks. These suggestions work great. Really appreciate the help.
