Hey all,

I'm writing up some "cheat cards" (3x5) to help new players with actions in combat.  Examples are "Beat", "Thrust", "Taunt", and "Steal Initiative".

But I need a nice tidy name for rolling against terrain so you can fight just one of multiple opponents.

Any ideas for what to call this feat?

The Swedish Army has a expression fore this, it is called "fighting on your Own line"
In the 17-18 century, the Swedish army was fighting several wars in central Europe against several armies that was larger then the Swedish. Butt thru skillful maneuvering the Swedish army was able to face them one after one and defeat them.

Ooh. Me want.  Those sound like a great idea.

In fact, they might even be helpful for new (or even experienced) players; giving them a handful of these to choose from (specifics depending upon proficiency)...an easy way to quickly remind yourself of your options.

I've actually been working on a similar project for a while, with cards for the maneuvers. However, it's somewhat discouraging when every time I put significant work into it, the program decides that it wants to shut down, losing me all of my work.

That, and superior Finnish heavy cavalry raining bloody death on your enemies. I'm glad we could be there for you guys. ;)

Those who would discount the Finnish spirit would do so at their own peril.... ;)  Sisu!

I really do like military history, but I don't think "Fighting on your own line" will work.  (Am I wrong?  Does it work?).  Perhaps "Choose opponent" or just "Using terrain"?  I would love to find something as intuitive and descriptive as "Duck and Weave".

Assuming Mr. Norwood and Co. don't object, I'll email the MS Word files to anyone who wants a copy.  There's one file for attack actions, one for defense, one for genera info, and one more for unarmed combat.  I plan to print these on different colored index cards.

Um, let me see it first, then I'll give out the OK, assuming it quotes from the book. Copyrights and all...

Obviously it is not the beat of plans, but when fighting and being vastly out numbered as Sweden was in the beginning of the 18th century. Fighting Polen, Russia, Saxony and Denmark. The had to "fight on there own line" and it worked for almost 8 years. But in the end the larger force prevailed and all was lost. Not even the trustily finish hakkapelits cued save the day.

Sorry.  I know that a small force using interior lines can defeat larger forces.

I meant that the "fight on their own line" wouldn't be a good name for the action.
