I just thought I'd point out that there is a half-way lively discussion HERE on the HârnForum about the pros and cons of dice pool FRP's. I have brought up both TRoS and The Burning Wheel, and I thought I'd mention it here incase anyone had something to add to the discussion or correct me on. ;-)

Horror has a face... and you must make a friend of horror.  Horror and moral terror are your friends.  If they are not then they are enemies to be feared.  They are truly enemies.

Heh, thanks for the tip, but having participated in numerous single roll vs pool discussions, I've found that they are largely about people going to great convoluted efforts to defend what is essentially just a personal preference.  So I tend to avoid them if possible.  Anything about this particular one that doesn't meet this expectation?

(besides, if everyone in these discussions actually stopped to think about things logically and rationally, they'd soon realize that dice pools are innately superior to single dice rolls in every way)
;-)

It hasn't become a very emotional debate like you are imagining.  Just sort of a "what you can do with one type of system vs. another" discussion.  We over at the HârnForum are by and large a rather intellectual bunch (i.e. "bullshiters"). ;-)

By the way, that's my thinking exactly.

They seem to have identified the major issues nicely (they haven't looked at multiple successes and decreasing odds of production, however), and have progresses to the stage where they're discussing their preferences for hidden/transparent probabilities.

Tony, tell them next time they have a question like this to just post to Game Theory here or do a search. They'll have all the answers they need from the next poster, likely. Should save some time. Tell them that we'll refer the people with Harn questions over there. :-)
