Hi friends!
How would You manage a magic talent enabling a character to put curses on other persons?

I tried it with a major Gift "Curse Magic". Maybe the even the name does not sound pretty good.
Shoud I handle it with Spirit Points as I do it right now. I divided the ability in 4levels.

Level 1: only light curses are allowed that doesn't bother too much, eg. fleas or the loss of a fingernail

Level 2-3: more dangerous curses, that effect the life of a character more, like the character gets a hiccup (correct spelling?) everytime a women looks at him or he drops everytime from his horse when starting to ride faster than basic movement speed or a special kind of food (eg. apples) work like poison on him.

Level 4: those are the very heavy and deadly curses; the target of the curse gets the black pest or starts to shiver in stress situations that he can only use 1/2 CP or looses an attribute point from time to time ect.

You start with level 1 and have to buy the next level with SAs!

What do You think. Suggestions? Which points would You handle different?

Or should I combine it with a skill "Speak Curse" which a person only gets when he/she has the Curse Speaker Gift?

Hmmm?

Well, I agree with the name "Curse Magic" not sounding good...
I don't think the word "Magic" and "Curse" belong together.
What about "Black Gift", "Curser" or your own suggestion "Curse Speaker"?

One idea would be that you have to make a pact with dark forces to be able to put curses. Just summon the Devil, sell him your soul and start cursing!
I think this would make curses cool the way they're suppose to be. It would means some real sacrifices, which usually means that SA's get involved. Curses can often only be lifted by a certain action or object, which isn't strange if it's the Devil himself who put it there through one of his minions. OTOH, if any average Joe Sorcerer can put it there, then any Joe Sorcerer should be able to lift it. Now, I know that the average Joe Sorcerer doesn't exist in TROS, but you know what I mean.

Oh, BTW there was a thread somewhere here where someone suggested a great way to handle curses, once they're put on someone. The idea was that curses would be like bad SA's, I think.

Here's the thread that Mokkurkalfe is referring to:

Maybe it will be of some use to you.  I like the idea of making an dark pact to get a curse.  The target of the person will suffer, but it's the person who makes the curse that will pay the true price.  Someone who wants to curse another must have a truly all-consuming, self-destructive hatred of their target.

How kenjib has put together the spell. If you are going to trouble yourself with cursing somebody, darn straight it had better be in line with your SA's otherwise, what's the point.

I say the above in regards to the discussion at the end of Chapter six in TRoS...
"Don't fight your opponent's sword, fight your opponent. For as you fight my sword, I shall fight you. My sword shall be nicked, your body shall be peirced through and I shall have a new sword".

Thank You!
That does help me. I like the thing with the pact. Really bad thing....
I will work on this topic.
