Hi!
I am new to these forums. I have been gaming since about 1980. I have desinged a couple of homebrew systems. But now I am getting serious about publishing a new game system. It's called Lands of Lore and it is set in a sword and sorcery fantasy setting, but I think it is pretty original.
The game mechanic is totally new and not like much of anything I have seen. Everyone who has played has complemented me on it. So, I think it is pretty good...

Hi Dave, and welcome to the Forge! Some general pointers:

- Read the stickies at the top of every forum (especially this, the Site Discussion forum), they contain important rules of conduct.
- If you're unclear on something, PM 'Ron Edwards', the head honcho and ask. He much prefers questions to mistakes.
- Read old stuff and use the search function to find discussion of common issues. Don't hesitate to start a new thread to ask for clarification.
- If you're interested in RPG theory, the articles to start with are linked at the top of the page.

Other than that: I hope you'll find the Forge a rewarding experience. Note that there is a specific forum for game design efforts (as there is for most things), so if you want lots of feedback and suggestions on your game, head over there and start a thread. Having a beta version ready for download is a great step, that's much further than most coming here with a game. And boy, I think that there just might be a thing or two I might want to say about your game if you decide to start that thread!

Hi Dave!

Eero has given a good advise. It takes some time to get use to the site uses. Read a lot (articles and threads) is the best way to understand what is going on here and get into it.

I had a quick look at your lite version. I can see a lot of potential in some parts of it. I will suggest you to begin readding this couple of articles:
Fantasy Heartbreakers
More Fantasy Heartbreakers

And please, don't think "Fantasy Heartbreaker" is a derogative term. Check the very recent thread: What is a Fantasy Heartbreaker?

Cheers,
Arturo

It's called Lands of Lore

You do know that there was a series of computer roleplaying games with the same title? The series is probably defunct (no game has been released in it for at least 7 years), but it might be a good idea to consult someone about matters of copyright.

Hi!
Thanks, I did a search on the internet and found no matches a while ago, I'll be careful before I publish.
  Thanks again!

Hi!
What does anyone think of the name "Iron Age Adventures"?

Hi Dave,

I'm Ron, the site content moderator. It's nice to have you here.

This is not the right forum for discussing your game in design. For that, go to Indie Design. However, I recommend that you start by posting in the Actual Play forum, describing some experiences you've had while role-playing. It really is the best way to get going at the Forge.

Let's stop this thread, here - no more posting to it. Start a new thread in the right forum, and if you have any questions about where to post, or how, send me a private message (click on my name and follow the instructions).

Best,
Ron

Hi Folks!

I'm new to the forum as well and I'd like to thank the admins in advance for the platform they are giving us. I have a (very small) forum on my own and I know how much work it can be to run sites like these.
I came here to read and discuss RPG theories, however it seems the theory forums have been closed down? Or am I overlooking the new home?

Good to see so many people interested in creative RPG design,

So long,

Hello Christian and welcome.

But I have to say something very clearly now.

Do not post introductions of this kind at the Forge. This site is for discussions, not socializing. Just browse the forums and find something you'd like to participate in. Please check out the etiquette sticky at the top of this forum as well.

Christian, you have begun with a big error as well - you have posted to a thread which I have closed. Read my post above - it says, "No more posting." Here, at this site, these words are absolute law.

You are not in trouble. But please take the time to learn more about this site and how it works. For example, you will notice I didn't delete the post or ban you or do anything like that. Nor have I locked the thread. There are reasons for this, and for those same reasons, everyone is expected not to post to this thread again.

The theory forums are closed, but the theory is very much alive. Please read about it and post in Actual Play and Indie Design if you want to discuss it. Follow the guidelines for each forum carefully.

Best, Ron
