*  Is it that we accept violence, even shootings, in the West?  I'm sure that is part of it.  I don't think it would be nearly as interesting as power politics in an academic department (years as towns, deans as shepards, etc.)

now you made me think about harry potter in the vineyard :)

Hey Domon, welcome.

I split your post into its own thread just to keep things here tidily chronological, no big deal.

This thread's totally open to anyone and everyone's input. Any thoughts about violence, academia, Harry Potter, and Dogs?

Ok, I'll bite.

Wizards in the Schoolyard?

So backgrounds would stay the same.
Escalation would likely stay the same... Ceremony would need some work.  Maybe fit the Unforgivable curses in there?
Each year would have something wrong, it could start with pride, leading up to Dark Arts instead of Sorcery (functionally being the same deal)
The challenge would be to put the students in a position of power to make judgements that matter. Stuck on that point.
Hi, my name is Jon.

The judgement is not to act, per se, but rather what to say to Dumbledore.

Each book ends with a scene, where All Is Revealed, and Dumbledore is the one who announces the final judgement.
"In our game the other night, Joshua's character came in as an improvised thing, but he was crap so he only contributed a d4!"
