We're more in agreement that my post might have looked. I certainly agree about the search engines.

I do stress that the advice needs to be tuned to every business. As far as I can tell, click-through ads aren't effective unless they appear in strongly-related sites, much like the old webrings used to do. I also think "traffic = business" is too simplistic, and that attracting engaged traffic, as well as repeat visits, are the better priority.

Ron, I'd concur on the point about click-through ads. I experimented with some for Spirit of the Century, and didn't really see any effect result from 'em.  At the end of the day, it's word of mouth and actual play -- surprise! -- that act as the prime drivers of products I've had a chance to watch sell.
