Hello.

I was directed here by a friend who told me this was the place for a hopeful small publisher to go and ask questions. Well, here I am, there you are and here's my question:

I'm looking for cheap binding. I'd like saddle-stitched (stapled) books. There's a kinkos next door, but is there another option?

Thanks in advance and thanks for a very informative site!

Check out AlphaGraphics. They did a great job for me. Outside of that, I recommend looking around town for smaller printers: most towns have one or two non-chain print shops, and if you live in the city, there's dozens.

Wow!

I type in a question, I get a cup of coffee, and there's the webmaster with a link! With a store twenty minutes from my house!

Thank you, Mr. Nixon.
(Gee, that doesn't sound right, for some reason.) ;)

Seriously, thank you very much.

Mike and I had a good experience with PiP.  I think they're a franchise though, so quality may vary by location.

We had them do a perfect bound soft cover, but they do alot more than that.

How much (if you don't mind me asking) did you pay? And what kind of books/binding did you do?

it was 86 pages, digest size, perfect bound (i.e. traditional RPG softcover bound).  It was a very small run of only 100 copies and very last minute (we picked them up the morning of GenCon) so that contributed to a higher than average price.

It was $610 for 100 copies.  With more lead time and a somewhat larger run it would have probably been $1-$2 cheaper.

I'm assuming you mean per copy so that would be a total of $100-$200 cheaper, right?

Yeah, of course with more copies that wouldn't translate to cheaper in an absolute $ sense.
