Question about barbarians

Nero's Boot

Hello, all.  I'm a few weeks to a month or so away from running a Riddle of Steel campaign (it all depends on when my book gets in), but the campaign I want to run is one based on the novels by R.E. Howard: not as epic, perhaps, with nowhere near the amount of magic, and of course, it'll be set on Weyrth.

My question is this: do barbarians (ala the Cimmerians) live on Weyrth?

They do if you want them too!

Not quite what I meant.  What I meant is, do any officially exist on Weyrth?  I'm not necessarily looking for Cimmerians, merely barbarians.

Certainly, they could.  Quite literally, a barbarian is just someone hailing from a savage, uncivilized culture...or a person bereft of such niceties.  So, it stands to reason that there are plenty of "barbarians" running around Weyrth.  It just depends on who you ask!

Seriously, though, the barbarians you speak of (Cimmerians) could exist should you choose to include them in Weyrth.  And it goes beyond the obvious "it's your game now, you can do what you want with it" philosophy espoused by many.

From what I remember, they had a decidedly Central European/Western Asian (somewhere around the Black Sea, I think) feel...a flavor that could fit well in several areas.  In addition, there is one location (Magyarfold) which has been left without significant detail so that such work can be done by individual seneschals.

I believe Odeon might work for your purposes.

But I could be remembering wrong. I'm tired, and haven't looked through the book lately.

Zhibara (sp?) would probably work pretty well too.  As would northern Stahl, Savaxen, or maybe even Sarmatov.

That question has Kyrm-Khanan written all over it.

Barbarians? There's the Conan-loincloth and great sword type and then there's the Viking type. As for Vikings there is a description of a Stalnish or Sarmatovian Cheiften in OBAM searching for his lost emissary sent to a minor Jarl council in his name and what he discovers when he gets there. This is perfect Viking stuff.

Conan or Cimarrians? No PC would survive one session of this game dressed in only a loincloth. Unless his CP was 20. Seriously, there are plenty of places for the Cimarrian PC type to come from or others to explore. But I think of Weyrth as more of a 13th Warrior kind of world.

Hope this helps.
Damn, sword cuts hurt!

The Fahalanim. The descripption of Fahal is very Conan. They don't do armor, or much at all in the way of clothes; they don't have those kinds of resources. But they are as warlike as you can imagine.

At a guess, I'd think that Jake made them with Frazzetta art as his inspiration.
