I recently posted a thread about starting a Forge East convention-going force in the Publishing thread. http://www.indie-rpgs.com/viewtopic.php?t=7674

Publishing seems like the wrong place for something like this. I formally and publicly propose adding a Conventions Forum to the Forge.

This forum would contain information about the Forge attending GenCon as well as other Forgies attending other smaller, regional cons. Such a forum would help us coordinate activities at these cons and bring better recognition to our games. Such a forum would also help other people find us at cons, since there would be a centralized location to come to and find necessary info.

whaddya say guys?

Just to play Devil's Advocate here for a bit, but would the Connections forum be a good idea for such things?

Um, it doesn't matter what people think of the forum you're proposing, Luke. Clinton and I have approved it, and when it's logistically possible (that's a Clinton thing), it'll go up. I know we said this a while ago, but I gotta say, major delays kick in all the time.

Fred, that's not a bad point, except that the Connections forum is already way damn diffuse. I really like the idea of the Forge having a presence at lots and lots of conventions, and for that presence to be a matter of pure mutualistic helping-out rather than some over-organized thing. A whole forum dedicated to that, and to other con-organizing stuff like the "getting our shit together about GenCon" threads, is long past due.

Which also means, a ton of thanks to Luke for initiating it.

Best,
Ron

Only slightly off-topic, I am going to be at ShoreCon at the end of the month, and very probably at UberCon in October. Are there any Forge connections at either of those with which I might be involved?

I am a guest at http://stonehill.org/necro.htm>Necronomicon in Tampa in October. Steve Jackson is as well if anyone is interested. I am running some http://bayn.org/wushu/>Wushu as well as maybe some others. Anyone else planning on coming?

I don't think that my game, such as it is, will be ready by then.

Send me an email at ross_winn@mac.com or reply to this message.

adding links to convention websites may also be useful -- I'll add South African cons this weekend -- someone else may want to set up a structure (regional?) for such links in the meanwhile

guys, please read this thread:

http://www.indie-rpgs.com/viewtopic.php?t=7674

all of your concerns and questions should be addressed herein.

once you read it mj, let's talk about a concerted Forge effort at Ubercon.

that previous comment of mine was in reference to the ever-useful Resource Library; sorry 'bout that

thanks for the thread ref abzu

I noticed that the Conventions forum does not have a policy sticky on it.

I noticed it because someone posted a thread there about a con that had already past. I'm certainly in favor of convention news (I'd love to know who won the Origins awards last year; I still haven't heard), but it was my impression that the conventions forum was intended to discuss preparations for cons still ahead.

So I thought I'd 1) check as to what functions are valid on that forum and 2) ask whether a sticky explaining these is anticipated.
