I would use the default but let him use long sword maneuvers as they are very similar and could be pulled off.

I would keep the penalty very small, however, if the character was using the arming sword like a longsword. This would be obvious to anyone around, and it would be clear that they guy had trained with so-and-so. I would probably give anyone fighting him a bonus to any body language rolls.

What would you use as a default though?  One can use a bastardsword or longsword one handed with the longsword prof.  Presumably an arming sword could be used the same way without any realy difference except the difference in length and perhaps some slight weight difference.  Given that the arming sword would probably be lighter than the hand and a half swords, it might be easier to use offsetting any penalty for a difference in balance.

i was thinking sword and shield but you are right, screw the default. Id just let him/her play as is full cp
