How does one stop blood loss in TRoS (please point me to the page in the book where it mentions this - healing seems to only cover 'Pain' - or explain it here) ?

What proficiency does a character use when fighting with a single sword and no shield ? Still the Sword and Shield proficiency ?

As always, thanks!
'But the discord of Melkor rose in uproar and contended with it, and again there was a war of sound more violent than before, until many of the Ainur were dismayed and sang no longer, and Melkor had the mastery.'

The skill of first aid stops blood-loss.(Look in the index for a page number)
((Should be in the 'training' section, i.e. Book 3.))
Regarding the sword.. if the sword is normally one handed.. sword and shield works. You just cant do moves that you normally could with a shield.

If it was a two-handed sword.. like a claymore... greatsword would cover it.
I think that about covers it.

The way I see it the following styles cover training in using most swords (with the exception of rapiers) in the character's best hand - sword and shield, greatsword and cut and thrust. Where they differ is in the option that the character is trained with for their off hand i.e. using a shield, double-handing or a dagger, if you don't have the off hand option in equipment you just can't use any manoverves connected with it. There are also a few subtle differences in manoverves (greatsworders can half-sword for instance) and how they each default to other weapons (as cut and thrust includes some dagger work it defaults better to dagger than sword and shield which defaults better to mass weapon and shield).

In this respect I would advise you to have a look at the various manoverves and the defaults to other weapons (its suprising how often you fumble your sword away and the closest available weapon is something you've had no formal training in).

Check under the description of the proficiency.  I believe the S&Sh prof states that you can use the prof without a shield with no penalty...you just can't do any shield related maneuvers.

I would generally agree with the previous post that longsword, sword & shield, and cut & thrust would all allow you to use any sword one handed but only with the maneuvers listed for that prof.

Heh..

Had a situation this weekend where our bannerman (banner is attached to a spear) was pressed too hard, and was forced to pull his "hip-hugger" (essentially a swordsword or long dagger). He said he made two kills, using the hanging banner as a distraction to kill with.

That's what happens when you put a rapier-fighter in a hardsuit melee, I suppose.

BTW, we (the Atenveldt/Outlands alliance) won the war this year.
