Hello,

Whoa, Callan, Rune and RuneQuest are two extremely different games. The latter (which is the one mentioned in my essay, in the part you're talking about) has nothing to do with the points we're discussing. The former, Rune, is clearly something you should investigate.

I do see your point, and I also agree with your frustration with letting the esteem thing be wholly constructed by the group. "Points" or similar things are important ... but perhaps it's premature, in discussions with you, to talk about systems which insert such features but in ineffective ways. Those systems are what prompted my comments in the first place, and I now think that topic should be delayed until you've actually seen some Gamist play with overt "win" conditions and points.

Rune, Ninja Burger (or its sister/parent game, Kobolds Ate My Baby), Once Upon a Time (not really an RPG but very close), and Pantheon should all be very interesting for you.

Best,
Ron

Oops, with all the quests being added on to RPG titles, its hard to keep up!

With Kobolds ate my baby, I purchased a copy awhile ago (now lost to me), and I can't remember any real game assisting mechanics. Was there a second edition or did I just completely miss it (I'm certain I read through the whole book)?

Pantheons narrative death match is interesting (and I still have a copy). Though as I think your pointing out with game like this, the points systems set up a particular type of play that is then not really customised to the particular users esteem tastes. Beyond that, I'm not sure what you mean by inserting Vs features in ineffective ways. So a delay for some real experience is worth somthing.

But seriously, I'm just not going to get a chance at actual play with rune, pantheon or any of the others, due to time, money or product availability. So instead, ambitiously, I plan to make a small & very basic one of these Vs games, which will better describe what I'm aiming for. Once done, I'll upload it and start a new post with a link to it.

Haphazard, but worth a shot.
