Life path sort order?

How are the life paths organized within settings? I'm having trouble understanding... It doesn't seem to be alphabetical, for example, but maybe I'm missing something...

Lifepaths are listed in a general, hierarchical order: from the lowest, most base and most common paths in that setting, to the most high and elevated.

Don't forget to read the pre-requisites - and to realize, conversely, if you consider all the paths in a Setting that
don't
have a prerequisite, that means you can simply move on to whatever one you'd like.
