We had another game this last Wednesday on irc.magicstar.net.

Raven, Nathan, and MikeD played. We also had lurkers galore, which surprised me. BTW, that was a good surprise - lurkers, as always, are welcome. So are players!

We had an instance where DiceBot simply had no clue as to how to declare victory during a Test. Since I wrote the DiceBot, that wasn't surprising.

This was the situation:

I, the GM, rolled 1d20 -> [20]

The player on the other end of the Test rolled many d20s, getting something like this:

nd20 -> [20 19 18 15 13 7 8 2... etc]

What happens here? Do we both roll another die? If we do roll another die, how to we proceed?

We played it as a 1 die victory for the player, but if anyone has a definitive ruling on this, I'm all ears.

Finally, the players met Kal-Laz, the undead arachnid thing under Tanu's command. It wasn't an arachnid until Raven sort of narrated the opening flurry that just sounded too right. The sucker had 14 dice in a Damage Test against Raven's PC - but it's ok - everyone came out ok. Nathan or MikeD came up big in a follow up attack that destroyed it. I expect the climactic confrontation with Tanu, the Big Bad, next week to be filled with foul magic, psionic blasts, and furious, desperate melee.

If you want to read the play-by-play, check out the Yahoo Indie-Netgaming group, http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/indie-netgaming. The files are posted under "Files"->"Donjon".

How long did the battle with the spider-thing last?  (In terms of game time units, and in real time.)  It always struck me that full-out combat in Donjon would actually be kind of repetitive and take forever.

James,

The combat lasted 1 flurry, almost.

The dice bot, I think, helps a lot. But hey, that's my bias showing up. The combat took 10-15 minutes in real time. Keep in mind the lag from IRC probably made this much longer than it otherwise would have been.

I'm not surprised that you're getting lurkers. The system's interesting and underplayed, and you guys play regularly enough that people can find the game. Sounds like prime lurking territory to me.

Oh, jeez, where does one hook up with IRC RP?  I've been dying to try out Donjon (and others...).
