Both approaches miss a very significant effect of those +2 bonuses.
What you need to consider is what happens when opposed dice rolls fall within a range of 2 of each other.
If you have rolled, say, 5, and you need a 7: with a d10 your chance is 40%. With a d4+2, it's 100%.

With the range of dice used in Agon, this occurs a lot - easily often enough to bump up the value of those traits.
