Lets say there are three sides of a conflict, and I roll down one of them.  To which of the other sides am I now allied?

And in the event that the answer is, "Whoever you want," when do I declare my allegiance?  Before the die is rolled?  After the die is rolled, but before reactions?  After reactions?

You are allied to both, meaning you can claim either of them.

Claiming is the only time allegiance is an issue.

Tony has said you have to choose which side you are allied with, after you roll.  See http://www.indie-rpgs.com/forum/index.php?topic=14890.msg157673#msg157673 and his answer to question 3.

It is also an issue when staking debt.  You can only stake on a conflict you are allied with.  From the FAQ...

Quote
Can I stake debt on a side I am not allied with?
No.

http://www.indie-rpgs.com/forum/index.php?topic=18381.msg193934#msg193934 (NOTE Here http://www.indie-rpgs.com/forum/index.php?topic=14890.msg157656#msg157656 said claiming is not alliance...important point!)
(Tony here http://www.indie-rpgs.com/forum/index.php?topic=18381.msg194013#msg194013 suggested a house rule to allow people to stake on unallied contests as long as they "really, really promise that's the side they're going to be rolling on.")
