Hoy, :)

What's it for, is basically the question...

To clarify, I understand what it means and I know why I should have the numbers and use them to color/inform my description of the town, but are players ever going to roll for it, and if so, what for, exactly?

Cheers,

If the grateful townspeople decide to throw a big fiesta, and the goblins sneak into town to cause trouble, Hospitality would be used to roll to see how drunk the goblins get after drinking the wine and going crazy.  (Hey, it's all I can think of.)

I thought this was rolled when determining how high on the hog you can live betwen adventures.  If a town has a really low cap then the adventurers sleep in the farmers barn between donjon crawling.  If it's high then they get to live large in well appointed rooms, etc.

What might be interesting is to have players roll after staying at low cap hospitality towns and have to make a Wherewithal test.  Failures become narraration or penalties to you days events while successes can be carried over throughout the day.  Nothing like a good night's sleep!  If it's really high maybe you can apply bonuses/penalties to social rolls when facing knights or nobles.
