I don't think it's necessarily that weird; one of the missions I made sent the characters to a hotel, and the Complication in effect was a major celebrity being in the place, hence it was full of press; and that celeb was a porn star. Consdering there has been been effort to mainstream porn in the 90's and noughties, this concept wasn't a bad guess. Mine wasn't centre stage though, it was just a setting exposition vignette.
Seeing as I'm interjecting, we didn't do much with CP, largely because the Cyberpsychosis thing looked, to us, like a crude concoction to limit the characters. Seemed pointless, why frustrate the thing that the game is in large part about? Plus, the argument was advanced that we don't generally think someone who loses a leg in an accident or a war is psychologically crippled as a result, so why would an elective procedure be worse? There are counterarguments to that view to be made, of course, but it didn't sit right with us and so we ditched it outright. The equivalent in Shadowrun was less of an issue because it affected magical ability, and hence said less about the characters and served as a form of niche protection, so that went unchallenged.

I wanted to say that this thread has been very useful to me. I'm kind of sorry I don't have much to contribute beyond my sad 15-year old attempts. Ron's character example reminded me of how baffled I was about what to do with all those randomly generated friends/enemies/etc.
I find myself wondering that if I were to ever to attempt to play Cyberpunk if I would put in any effort to "modernize" the game. Or if I would simply revel in the retro-80s fantasy and leave cell phones the size of small walkie-talkies and having to get your suit-cased sized computer to the nearest phone both to plug into the net.
