Nice quote btw.. I don't know how accurate it was, but it definitely had the flavor of Conan that I remember.

The quote looks verbatim from the Oliver Stone/John Milus Conan the Barbarian script (1981 ir 83m don't recall...). Great quote. I love the movie, but that isn't where the Riddle of Steel came from (for the record).

'Crom, I have never prayed to you - I do not have the tongue for it. No one will know if we were good men, or bad men, why we fought or who won. No, that does not matter. What matters is that two stood against many. Valour pleases you, Crom. So grant me one request - Grant me revenge. And if you do not listen, then to hell with you.'   Conan

Hope that was right.

Pretty close.

Crom, I have never prayed to you before, I have no tongue for it. No one - not even you will know if we were good men or bad, why we fought or how we died. No, all that matters is that two stood against many. My war pleases you Crom, so grant me one request - grant me revenge. And if you do not listen, then to hell with you.

Hehe.

Cool, cheers.

I hadn't really imagined the game was derived from Conan, but I hazard the guess that some of its heroic grittiness might have contributed a little to the feel ;)

Take care

Well, to say that Howard's writing wasn't an influence on me isn't even sort of true. Of course it was. And the movie was a childhood introduction to Howard. So, it gets credit where due.

I fact, I got the idea when reading a bunch of asian manuals several years ago before I knew that there were European ones. The idea of a wandering swordsman seeking enlightenment.

Great, I thought. My game should have that.

I haven't played a full session yet, but have run through the combat system.  The game really rewards smart thinking.  We had a ranger in light armour using cut and thrust style down a knight in plate and coif, twice.  The ranger's player caught on quick putting more dice into defence and choosing his attacks wisely.  The knight complained that his character was at fault and wanted to make a sorcerer(bit of a power gamer).  ]

I am currently running LOTR so TROS has taken a bit of a back seat.  I am reserving TROS for some of my more mature players.

That seems to be the best way to go. When we put TROS together all three of us (being me, Rick McCann--artist and sorcery designer, and Ben Moore, artist and "whaddya think" guy) agreed that we wanted to TROS to be a "mature" game. Not like "porn shop mature," but that it would actually take someone with a reasonable adult intellect to get what we were doing and get off on it. I think we succeeded.

Agreed.
However, this severely limits my pool of potential players, so I'm not entirely happy. ;-)
