One or Two Day Conventions

What do you think is more successful?
One day Game Days or Two Day conventions?
Why?
What are the conditions by which you attend conventions?
How would a Game Day or two-day convention alter those conditions?
Thanks for your input

Oooh, tough question. I suppose an "all depends" wouldn't be a satisfactory answer? :-)
But it all depends. Mostly on what you can count on in terms of attendance. If this is a first time out for the Con, that makes it even more difficult because predicting attendance is hard. Also what sort of player is likely to attend? A Con at a University is going to be distinctly different than one thats elsewhere. Also, are there other Cons nearby in terms of both location and timing? How do you plan to advertise?
My general rule is that longer is better if you can swing it. Because that requires more of a committment ahead of time, meaning less people flake on it. I run a 4 day Con* with just some friends of mine here in Milwaukee that's outgrown the house that we usually hold it in. Not everyone attends all 4 days, but we do a lot of gaming with the people who do arrive. So, even for an "apartment Con" I think you can go long.
I like all sorts of Cons. Short ones are great for when I don't have time for something longer. Long ones are best for when I do. The important thing is that you have your slots filled with fun stuff to do. That's another question, what sort of stuff are you including at the Con?
I think that lots more questions need to be answered before a good answer can be derived.
Mike
*GlonCon IV! Mostly boardgames till we drop. A short game of Magic Realm anyone? Hey, if I get some Roleplayers, I can run some RPG events.
