First chapter, I played Antonella, a blood-sorceress in her early 20s trying to save her brother from life as a temple prostitute, and got on the Owe List a few times. Second chapter, I played Antonella as a tween, just after losing her family and before coming into her sorcerous heritage. I took the "rewrite the character sheet" option and headlined it Young Antonella for record-keeping purposes. And I got on the Owe List a few times.

Now here's my question: are there two Antonellas on the Owe List or one? If an entry from Chapter One ends up at the top of the list, is that different than if an entry from Chapter Two ends up at the top of the list? Restated: If an entry from Chapter Two ends up at the top of the list, does that mean it MUST BE a Young Antonella chapter? Or is it Antonellas all the way down, and I'm simply bringing Antonella back?

Most of us in the group think it is the latter, but we have at least one dissenter from that view!

You always have the best questions.

I'd say that I'd go with them being the same. The reason for it being that down the road, they could well end up being the same even if they're really different now.

Say, for example, they aren't really the same character at the moment. I mean, I know they're the same person, but that doesn't always mean they're the same character in structural terms. If one Antonella is, say, bitter and wicked and full of hate and she's on the We Owe List because of how she deals with that hate, and the other Antonella is sweet and innocent and is on the We Owe List because she always gets in trouble for her innocence. That's two different characters who bring different things to the game and who the audience may want to see for different reasons.

However, in most fiction, over time, we're going to have to reconcile those two characters. How did one become the other? What does it mean about the one that she was once the other? And what about when/if we move to the future where there is a third and fourth and tenth Antonellas?

So, to avoid the headaches, and to give the player plenty of options about how they bring back the character to reconcile (or not!) those different characters... I'd say the character on the We Owe List is probably the same across the board.

It's the same Antonella - after all, that's how you got Young Antonella in the first place.

When Antonella comes back, it's your choice which Antonella to play. If you decide to play Young Antonella, update the Young Antonella sheet; if Original Antonella, update that sheet; and if you decide to play some new Antonella, create a third sheet for her. Fun!
