Spending and Earning New Artha

Here's a quick run down of artha earning and spending from our game last night. Sorry I can't be much more detailed, very busy at the moment. Feel free to ask questions, though!

Earning
Spark Trait (call-on trait for doing anything toward starting a revolution. he was voted into this trait at the end of the last adventure):

Hanging the Body of Your Enemy over the Gates of the Compound -- Fate Point

Rabblerousing Speech -- Fate Point

Causing a Riot and Coming out the Better for It -- Persona Point

Secretive Trait:
Defusing a Potential Massacre -- Persona Point for Mold-Breaker

Greedy Trait:
Skimming from Group Funds -- Fate Point

Matriarch (class-based trait):
Defusing a Potential Massacre and Raising Awareness of Matriarchy's Presence-- Persona Point for personal goals

Born Leader Belief:
Volunteering to lead a raid on a ship, not knowing where the ships are or how to pilot a ship -- Fate point.

Spending
Jeez, I don't think there was a roll last night that wasn't juiced by any Fate or Persona points. In fact, they spent so much last night that my players actually ran out of Fate points -- a rare thing in our current games.

We had Fate points spet on the Skirmish rules, two of the characters are notorious gang-leaders and rebels, they both spent Fate points to lead their gangs into combat against the city's enforcers. Fate points allowed them to squeak out a victory in some tight situations.

Persona points were spent on swaying crowds, gathering resources to pay 100 mercenaries, and leading men into battle.

Two interesting points -- one player refused to spend Artha on a Speed or Stealthy test to shake his pursuers. He would have been caught and hauled off to torture and jail if not for the intervention of another player. Another player, who's character is a veteran in this campaign, but a young'un in the campaign as a whole -- he's been on 3 or 4 major adventures -- is very close to epiphanying a skill, Sword in this case. Everytime he tests that skill he spends artha. He's very dedicated in that way, and it is completely working for him. He's lately earned quite a reputation as a formidable swordsman, because he continues to pull off unlikely victories -- due in part to his prodigious expenditure of artha. So where does all that artha come from? He uses his Spark trait to create difficult situations and to set goals -- this has earned him Fate, Persona and Deeds points in the course of the history of the character.

Yow, this is a great example of the fundamental BW principle of "to become it, you must do it".
