Hey guys, remember me?

I took your (group) advice, and have a prototype for a d20 Modern-based sci-fi RPG. It's pretty detailed - with vehicles, races, equipment, planets, artifacts, and stats for all of them. I've tested it a bit, and think the stats are well-enough balanced to justify trying it out with others.

Now my question is: How does one "hook" players?

My co-author's friend is taking the game proto down to Gen Con Indy this summer, but what can I do locally (I'm not going to Gen Con)? Should I start out with friends and family members, or take it down to the local game store and run a campaign?

Goals?

Hey survivor,

What kind of play do you enjoy? What is the "goal" of the game? To compete, either against in game obsticles or against other people in the play group? To immerse you all seemlessly into a sci-fi enviroment? To tell stories of deep universal human pathos?

I am a bit confused on how you are using the phrase "hook players." Do you mean to find reall people to play with? Or are you talking about how to keep their characters on task within the game itself (i.e. "hook" them on the story)

It's a game where the players are immersed in a world (or several, given space travel) full of intrigue, conspiracies, war, peace, and love. Obviously, not all at once, or it'd be one heck of a campaign.

And I mean, "how do I get players, and keep them"? At the moment, I've got four friends playing over a forum, and they seem to enjoy it. Now, I just want to get "real" people...

sorry for the lack of advice on this topic, but snatching players from the matrix of the "real world" i have found to be quite difficult as well. So much so, it has been near 8 years since i last played any RPG.

.....sigh....life can be so sad...... :)

if anyone has any ideas on this, please let us in on it.

Survivor, is this about the design of the game? If you're wondering how to get people to play your completed game, that's probably more something for actual play.
